Privacy Policy — The Council

Last updated: March 2025

The Council is a Chrome extension that orchestrates queries across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to produce unified deliberations. This policy describes how we handle your data.

Data We Store

All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage. We do not operate any servers that receive or store your information.

We store:

  • Your queries and reference context - to run deliberations and show results

  • Job history - your past deliberations (prompts, model responses, synthesis) for your convenience

  • Settings - mode preferences, provider selections

  • Auth status - cached login state for ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini (to avoid repeated checks)

Data We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect analytics

  • We do not track usage

  • We do not send your data to any third-party servers we control

  • We do not sell or share your data

How Your Data Is Used

  1. Local processing - Your prompt and context are used only to orchestrate queries.

  1. Provider sites - When you run a query, the extension sends your prompt (and optional context) to ChatGPT, Claude, and/or Gemini via their websites. Use of your data by those providers is governed by their own privacy policies.

  1. Export - You can copy or download results. Export happens entirely on your device.

Permissions

  • Storage - Save jobs, history, and settings locally

  • Tabs - Open and manage ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini tabs

  • Scripting - Inject automation scripts on provider sites to run and capture queries

  • Side Panel - Show the extension UI in Chrome’s side panel

  • Alarms - Rehydrate jobs if the service worker sleeps

  • Host access - Required to automate ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini; overlay on any page

We only request permissions needed for these features.

Data Retention

All data stays on your device. You can remove it at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing Chrome extension data.

Changes

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the extension after changes means you accept the updated policy.
